Clinical Neurology
The Department of Clinical Neurology based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital provides neuro-medical services to a population of approximately 2 million people in North Trent. The catchment population includes Barnsley, Chesterfield, Doncaster, Rotherham, Sheffield, Lincoln and Worksop, as well as some of the Peak District. Each of these centres has regular outpatient clinics staffed by a Consultant Neurologist.
In addition to providing outpatient Neurology services we have two wards at the Royal Hallamshire where acute in-patient services are provided, and a Programmed Investigation Unit which provides day-care treatment and investigation.
We have sophisticated teams of nurse specialists, physiotherapists and occupational therapists who ensure continuity and excellence of care in the community.
The Department trains large numbers of medical students, junior doctors, nurses and, with its close links with the University of Sheffield Academic Neurology Unit, helps train research workers in many Neurological sub-specialities. There is on-going research taking place in many neurological fields both independently, in collaboration with pharmaceutical companies and in collaboration with the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam.
